Fes is Morocco’s oldest imperial city, famous for its labyrinthine medina, centuries-old tanneries and profound spiritual lineage. Walking through its winding alleyways is like stepping back in time, with centuries-old mosques, madrasas and artisan workshops to stumble upon.
Tour Route Overview:
Many of these desert tours start in Fes; they run south toward Marrakech where the scenery changes instantly, from forests of cool mountain to miles upon miles of the great dunes of the Sahara.
On the way from Fes to Marrakech, you’ll pass through the cool mountain towns of Ifrane and Midelt, then wind your way down into the lush Ziz Valley. Eventually, the road leads you to Merzouga, where the golden dunes of the Sahara rise in the distance. Here, you can hop on a camel and ride into the quiet of the desert, spending the night in a camp under a sky full of stars. From there, the journey takes you through the dramatic cliffs of Todra Gorge and the winding roads of Dades Valley, with palm groves and mudbrick kasbahs dotting the landscape. By the time you arrive in lively Marrakech, you’ve experienced some of the most breathtaking and culturally rich parts of Morocco.
